One Comment Doesn’t Make Cam A Bad Person

NFL, Panthers

Cam Newton smiled, laughed and made a comment that he thought it was funny to hear a woman discuss NFL “routes”.  It was a public setting with a reporter in front of her peers.  That merits an apology from Cam Newton.  Agree.

Here’s what Cam Newton didn’t do:  he didn’t say in an angry condescending tone, ‘Are you kidding me?  Why is this chick asking me a football question?’  He smiled, chuckled and was almost taken aback by the knowledge of this female reporter.  He didn’t say, ‘you’re a little too sexy to be asking questions like that sweetie.’

And here we are America.  The black franchise quarterback made a jovial comment to a white reporter and all hell has broken loose on sports talk radio, newspaper columns and ESPN.  Yes, I went there with race.  To provide perspective on things like this, sometimes in my own mind I switch the races up.  What if Josina Anderson asked about the ‘cover 3 defense’ being played by the Panthers to Tom Brady and Brady chuckled and said, “wow, I’m surprised Josina.  Talking cover 3 defense.”  Probably a non-story.

Anybody remember when the NFL’s residing meathead Rob Gronkowski was thrusting and grinding on a female television personality’s lap last year?

But that was cute right?  It’s Gronk being Gronk.  I can’t even begin to imagine if Cam Newton hopped up on this woman’s lap like Gronk did what the reaction would be on Fox News.

For some of the the media talking heads piling on Cam Newton today, they had their own agenda on Cam before he made that comment, and this just allowed them to go all in now.  I’ve heard guys on the radio call him a fraud, a baby, a sore loser.  Does Cam need to mature a little bit when things aren’t going his way?  Yes.  Is he a fraud?  No.  The million dollar smile is the smile you get every single time.  It’s not contrived.   Just ask kids in Charlotte or Atlanta.

95% of Cam Newton is good.  He absolutely loves kids.  His charity has given away meals to kids over the holiday, provided kids with gift cards to go shopping.  Cam Newton once heard about a Halloween party for a boy with cancer, so he showed up with an ice cream truck.  Cam Newton had a special on Nickelodeon where he stepped into the lives of two different children and took them on a journey that pushed them closer to fulfilling their dreams.  Cam’s “Every 1 Learns” program was created to provide educational opportunities for children who are at-risk or from disadvantaged families.  Kids, Kids, Kids.  That is his passion because he sees a lot of himself in these children.

We should spend less time criticizing Cam Newton for a 5 second sound bite to a reporter, and more time scrutinizing the man many of you put in the White House.  Fat.  Pig.  Dog.  Slob.  These are just some of the names Donald Trump has called women.  Back when George HW Bush was US President, Trump spoke to Esquire magazine about the media: “You know, it doesn’t really matter what [they] write as long as you’ve got a young and beautiful piece of ass.”

In an interview with New York Magazine Trump uttered this phrase about women: ‘You have to treat ’em like s—-‘.  The list goes on and on.  Feel free to see the entire list of times Donald Trump made sexist remarks about women.

Again, many of you criticizing Cam Newton today, voted for this disgusting human being.  I would bet Cam Newton has done more selfless acts of generosity than Donald Trump ever has or ever will.

Cam Newton should apologize to the reporter and go back to doing what he does best, playing football and helping out kids in the community.
